Dakar 2008 vol. 1

The Team:

Top One Oil is proud to be the primary sponsor of Team Rally PanAmerica, and rider Jonah Street who exploded onto the Dakar scene in 2006.  As a newcomer Jonah made waves with his 17th place finish (out of 252).  Even more remarkable, were Jonah’s times in 3 of the 15 stage finishes: He took 3rd in Stage 11, 5th in Stage 12, and 2nd in Stage 13.

Jonah’s much-anticipated showing in the 2007 Dakar Rally did not disappoint.  He was in 4th overall, but was daunted with engine failure.  Jonah’s Dakar Rally was cut short.

Jonah’s Dakar dreams may have been detoured in 2007, but 2008 is a new year.  With Jonah’s skills, confidence, and humanity towards fellow racers, he is not only on the radar in the rally world, but a favorite of the fans.  Jonah is to wear the number 27.

About Dakar:

The Dakar Rally is a challenging race through grasslands, sand dunes, canyons, and the numerous other rough terrains between Lisbon, Portugal and Dakar.  It is a race of not only speed, but also endurance, skill, and luck.  The ever-changing natural obstacles bring unknown dangers to all who dare tread these grounds.  Experienced rides cannot even be completely prepared for the wrath of Mother Nature.  This is the appeal.  With a race renowned for its extreme conditions, just completing The Dakar Rally is an elite feet.

The 30th Dakar Rally will take place from January 5th through the 20th.  It has been decided 2008 will have longer special stages at no less than 6000 km (the longest timed distance since 2002).  The route will also find competitors sifting through more sand and dune crossings.
