It was late Saturday afternoon, September 25, 2010 at the Bonneville Salt Flats when veteran pilot Rocky Robinson strapped into the Top 1 Ack Attack streamliner and proceeded down the 11 mile (17.6 KM) course on his way to make history.

By the end of the day, Mike, Rocky and the crew realized their dream had become a reality as they became the “world’s fastest motorcycle”, averaging 376.156 MPH / 601.849KPH over two successive runs.

“What a fantastic conclusion to a stressful week of racing,” said Mike Akatiff, designer and owner of the TOP 1 Oil ACK Attack. Akatiff, the founder and president of San Jose, Calif.-based ACK Technologies, is all too familiar with the challenges and heartbreaks of land speed racing, where the extreme speeds place huge stresses on both men and machines. “We struggled all week long and anything that could go wrong did but, when we left the salt late Saturday evening we had the record and that’s all that counts.” “I can’t say enough about Rocky and the crew, especially Ken Puccio, Frank Millburn and Jim True, we couldn’t have done it without them.”

Under cloudy skies, Huntley Nash led the charge into turn one and began laying down consistent laps around the 4.05-mile circuit in Elkhart Lake, Wis. The Georgia native was challenged by polesitter Cameron Beaubier on lap three, losing the lead only briefly before regaining the position later in the lap.

Beach immediately began a battle with teammate Beaubier that would last for the remainder of the race, climaxing on lap seven with Beach passing Beaubier for second and then taking the lead from Nash in turn five. Nash took over the top spot one lap later before being passed by Beaubier again in lap nine under heavy braking. Beaubier lost the lead to Nash four turns later in the carousel section and Nash pulled out to a .549 second advantage on the white flag lap.

A set of misfortunate accidents on the last lap shuffled the order once again, with Nash going down in turn seven and handing the lead back to Beaubier. Unfortunately, Beaubier was only able to lead for four turns before having a lowside of his own in turn 12, returning the lead to Beach for the final time.

Beach officially led just two laps of the 10-lap final, earning his third AMA Pro SuperSport East victory of the 2010 season and taking over the top spot in the championship point standings over Beaubier, 114-102.

“It was a good race,” said Beach, who also won the Pro Singles division race at last week’s AMA Pro Flat Track Springfield TT. “Today in qualifying I had a little bit of a tipover and destroyed the bike. I had to go out in the race on my B bike so I had to get used to that. I just sat there and watched everybody battling. I was going faster than I did yesterday, and then the last lap I set a good lap. I have to get more used to that bike and break away tomorrow.”

Mazda Technologies and Cameron Beaubier win Sunday's PRO SuperSport Race at Infineon Raceway.

“Cameron did exactly what we knew he could do, which was run away” says Shawn Herrera the owner of Mazda Technologies. Cameron did not run his normal Rockwall Yamaha, but a private bike owned by his family in Rockwall livery, and sponsored by Mazda Technologies. “We had a fantastic volunteer crew this weekend…in addition to Jeff Beaubier as the master tech, we had Michael Aron of Mojotown (a local AFM Champion and shop owner), as well as Roland Cushway and Andrew Duafalla with last minute assistance to ensure the bike, rider and team had everything covered,” explained Herrera.

“It was great to have the opportunity to work with Cameron and the Mazda Technologies team this weekend, especially with Sunday’s results. We wanted Cameron to show everyone why he was on the pole, and he didn’t disappoint. He rode a flawless race,” Says Aron.

“This was an important weekend for Mazda Technologies as we try to secure additional sponsors and support for more of the West coast races. Cameron normally runs with Rockwall for the East Coast series. With the upcoming Laguna Seca round we wanted to put on a good show so we can secure additional sponsorship for Cameron to showcase his talents,” mentioned Herrera.

To put the Dakar into a summarized perspective, The Dakar is a world class sporting event put on over 15 days and 14 stages. The route covered 7504 kilometers / 4,690 miles (the distance from San Francisco to Tokyo) in length and at its highest point 3,200 meters / 10,560 feet through the Andes Mountains. The terrain throughout the Dakar is unbelievably difficult and only for those who are highly skilled and trained professionals with a bit of a crazy streak.
